“Cause for Paws Fundraiser” Money Stolen

Donation protected
Update 12/7: Thank you to everyone who has donated! You all have helped us exceed our donation goal for the Humane Society and my students are blown away. They were so upset when the money was taken and it was hard to get them invested in our project again. Now they are so excited to keep planning our pet adoption event. We will be using any the additional funds to not only increase our promised donation to the Humane Society, but also donate to other local shelters and to help support our “Cause for Paws Adoption Event” at NTC park on Saturday January 27th.

Thank you again for all your donations and we hope to see you at our event.

Hi, my name is Jenny and I am a 5th grade teacher at a project based learning school. For our project this semester, our 5th graders are raising awareness and funds for homeless pets. For step one of our project, we hosted a “Penny Wars” fundraiser for the humane society at our school. We were able to raise over $2,000! Our students put in such hard work and they were so excited over the money our schools’ families and community was able to donate.

Being a “penny wars” fundraiser, almost half the money raised was in coins. After 8+ hours of rolling coins to deposit into a bank, my team teacher and I drove to one of our local banks to see if they could turn our coins and bills into larger bills or a check. Seeing as we had hundreds of rolls of coins, we first went into the bank to ask if they could accept it all. Within 5 minutes of being in the bank, someone managed to smash my window and steal my backpack that was under my seat. My backpack had my work laptop, meds, personal iPad and the bag of cash for the fundraiser totally around $1,300.

Although I am upset about my personal belongings and having to fix my car window, I am completely devastated and heart broken over losing that money. Not only will my students feel let down, but we now cannot fulfill the donation we had promised to the humane society. We are hoping to raise back the money we lost so the students can give their full donation.

Please share this with your friends and family and/or donate if you are able. Any little amount is appreciated!
