CW: Mention of sexual assault
On February 21st, Southampton University Feminist society will be staging our annual #Catwalk4Consent. This event highlights the inaccuracies of the myth that the clothes a person wears are in any way related to sexual assault. At the Catwalk4Consent, we show the real stories and clothing submitted to us by members of the public. There will be collection buckets at the event, so if you are attending you will be able to donate there.
This event is also an opportunity for us to raise money for YellowDoor, an organisation that supports survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Southampton and across Western Hampshire. YellowDoor was first established in 1985, operating from a single room at the Women’s Centre. Now, they have grown to support survivors of all genders across many different communities, as well as provide training to volunteers and professionals, and raise awareness of all factors of abuse. Your donation can help YellowDoor to reach even more of the people who need their support.

The prevalence of sexual assault in Britain is shockingly high. A 2017 crime survey of England and Wales found that 20% of women, and 4% of men have experienced some form of sexual assault since the age of 16. According to the Southampton Safe City Strategic Assessment Refresh of 2017/2018 , sexual offences in Southampton increased by 14.4% from 2017 to 2018. Fighting sexual assault is a constant battle, which needs everyone’s contribution.
