The coronavirus pandemic is causing great concern around the world, and here in Chicago. Like so many Chicago businesses, Big Delicious Planet has had dozens of job cancellations and has nothing on our calendar for weeks.
What can we do with a big empty catering kitchen and staff with nothing to do in a time like this? Through our GoFundMe, Catering for Communities, we can help communities around Chicago by preparing food and delivering to them.
How this will work:
1. Donate to our campaign.
2. We'll get the food and prepare sack lunches* for each distribution center (church, shelter, community center).
3. Volunteers will pick-up the food from Big Delicious Planet and deliver to distribution centers around Chicago.
4. A family member will go pick up sack lunches for their family at the distribution center.
5. Families in need will get a meal.
We have a growing list churches, shelters, and community centers that will be distribution centers.
We're looking for monetary donations, product donations, and will need volunteers (sign up sheet to come) to deliver. Are you a local manufacturer? We can use your help too!
$10 feeds 1 person.
$40 feeds 4 people.
$120 feeds 1 dozen people.
$500 feeds 50 people at 1 distribution center per day.
$1000 feeds 100 people at 1 distribution center per day.
$3500 feeds 50 people at 1 distribution center per week.
$7000 feeds 100 people at 1 distribution center per week.
Please donate what you can. We'll try to prepare as many meals as possible, and bring in other catering companies to help. We’re not the only caterers with time on our hands these days.
Our great city is filled with hard-working folks, many who can’t afford to take time offor will be laid off due to current circumstances. Let’s all pitch in and help our neighbors.
BDP is a licensed food establishment. At all times we rigorously follow state and city health codes, and we’ve instituted even higher standards for a time like this.
