Castle to Castle Lockdown Walk for Cois Nore

I was born in Co Limerick and spent my first ten years living in Newcastle West. We then moved to Kilkenny and I've been living here more or less ever since.
Since I retired over 5 years ago, I've been volunteering with our local Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre, which provides support for people affected by cancer, both those with a diagnosis and their loved ones.
My other passion is hillwalking which, unfortunately, has to stop for now because of current restrictions.
On the other hand, even though the doors of Cois Nore have had to temporarily close to protect our clients, the centre is very much still operating providing emotional and practical support both by phone and online. In fact, with the ongoing worry about Covid-19, our clients need our support now more that ever!
All services to clients are provided free of charge and they are funded by donations received from the community. Unfortunately, with the Covid-19 restrictions, most of our fundraising events have been postponed and our Charity Shop has had to temporarily close.
To raise a some much needed funds at this time, I plan to walk the 137km from Newcastle west to Kilkenny Castle over the next couple of weeks. Of course, with the current restrictions, all my walking will have to be done "virtually" within the allowed 2km of my home here in Kilkenny City.
I'm starting today and plan to "reach Kilkenny" by May 5th, the day that hopefully we will see the start of the restrictions being eased. I'll keep you posted about my progress on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
