The canal committee has been investigating ways to improve our canals and we have a potential solution. We have found a company that offers a bacteria pellet solution that is supposed to reduce muck by 4-6 inches per year! The process includes spreading pellets eight times a summer. We believe that this process as an addition to the weeding spray will greatly improve the depth and passability of the canals. To treat all of the canals the total would be approximately $58,000 per year so we are looking to do a smaller demonstration area first. We are proposing starting with the area in yellow on the aerial view and that would be approx $9000. This section was chosen by the canal committee due to the severity of the shallowness/muck and traffic volume. With all of the projects going on the association cannot afford to fund the project. Initial response has been very positive an many people are already committed to contributing to the project. In total, we ne need 36 residents that either live on that stretch of canal or are just interested in improving our canal health to contribute $250. After doing this section for a year or two we will determine next steps and potential funding for all of the canals depending on the results. If you have any questions or want additional information on the treatments please let us know through this page.
