Help Keep Casa de Nada Alive
Casa de Nada — the house of nothing — because “in the nothingness, there is everything.” Though it is called the house of nothing, it has meant everything to so many of us. Casa de Nada is a space to share, laugh, eat, drink, dance, sing, create, imagine, pray, give offerings, and simply be together.
Over the past 8 years, countless beautiful memories have unfolded here — concerts, dinners, parties, birthdays, weddings, ceremonies, meditations, and more. Every moment has been created with love and intention: to celebrate life, love, and friendship.
From homemade sauces and organic produce to the smallest decorative detail, Casa de Nada has never compromised on quality or care. It has always been a labor of love by the Moellhausen family — honoring the vision of our dear Philippo and giving back to the community and land of Careyes that we cherish so deeply.
Casa de Nada has never been about profit. It has always been about people — a creative playground and sanctuary for our community. While every event and meal has helped keep the doors open, we have still absorbed losses for many years — taking them on as our contribution to Careyes. This year, however, we are confronting not just losses, but many costs and challenges that we can no longer take on alone.
Unfortunately, after time related extreme wear & tear, as well as unexpected maintenance and weather-related damages, Casa de Nada cannot afford to reopen for the upcoming season without help.
We Need Our Community’s Support
If you have ever shared a meal, a song, a dance, or a memory here — we are asking for your help to keep this dream alive.
Your contribution will go directly toward essential repairs and reopening costs, including:
• Floor sinking with potholes (partly due to crabs if you can believe it!)
• Brick wall repairs (damaged by rains and chipping)
• Restoration of petate bathrooms (crumbling from weather)
• Replacement of some mosquito nets and roof tiles (damaged by tejones and wind)
• New malla sombra (shade roof for the front area – ripped & decoloured)
• Sewage maintenance & repairs (leakages and grease trap cleaning)
• Stove maintenance (for proper working oven panels & heat)
• New storage container (the wooden one has disintegrated & is about to collapse)
• Removal of decrepit storage (to replace with new)
• New plates & cups (many are broken or unusable)
• New fridge & freezer (the old ones broke after years of use)
• New staff bathroom (to improve workflow & privacy during events)
Of course, there are little “wish list items” too — uniforms, bamboo details, and more — but these can wait. What matters now is covering this prior list of truly necessary essentials for us to reopen and continue hosting the magical gatherings we all love. We simply cannot open for this year unless we raise this target amount.
We had many exciting concerts, dinners, and community events planned for the coming season — but we need your help to make them happen.
Every donation helps us protect this colorful space of dreams, friendship, and joy. Together, we can keep the Casa de Nada hub and spirit alive for years to come.
With love and gratitude,
The Moellhausen Family
