Casa de Danza's Day of the Dead Celebration Fundraiser

Hi everyone,

It is with extreme joy that I'd like to introduce to you... Casa de Danza!

Casa de Danza is a Toronto-based arts organization that supports the behind-the-scenes work of professional dance artists. Is committed to celebrating the bodies that have been traditionally excluded and highlighting the different cultures that make Toronto the vibrant landscape it is, specifically, those of with Latino roots.

At Casa de Danza, we envision a vibrant Toronto dance community where every artist is supported in their creative journey. We recognize the pressing need for infrastructure that fosters artistic growth and collaboration in our city. Therefore, we are dedicated to providing a physical space that serves as a hub for professional dance artists, offering not only shelter but also the resources and facilities necessary for their artistic endeavours. We celebrate the rich diversity of bodies and cultures that shape our city, with a special focus on highlighting the traditions and innovations of Latino roots. Our vision is to be a beacon of inclusivity and excellence, where all forms of dance are embraced and the synergy between artistic expression and physical space fuels innovation. Through collaboration, support, and celebration, Casa de Danza aims to empower every dancer to thrive and contribute to the dynamic tapestry of Toronto's dance scene.

While we might not have all of the resources we are hoping to provide yet, we are very excited to announce our first project, Dia de Muertos | Day of the Dead Celebration.

DOD is a series of performances that celebrate dance, Latino roots and traditions. It serves as an invitation to include other cultures in our varied tapestry of celebrating love, death, life and grief. The idea came from my school years in Mexico where all the groups from the contemporary dance stream would produce a site-specific performance in and around the building of our now 100-year-old school, all with Day of the Dead themes. The site for 2024 is The Fifth on November 1st.

Join us on our journey by following our Instagram page for updates and opportunities to connect. Your support helps us build a vibrant, inclusive dance community in Toronto!"
