About Me
Hello! My name is Carson Wood, a Life Scout in Troop 1 of Brentwood, TN. Since joining Boy Scouts at an early age, it has enhanced my love of being outdoors hiking, camping, canoeing, swimming, diving, and just enjoying nature. Currently, I am working toward my Eagle Scout rank and planning my Eagle Scout Project. I chose my project because of the love I have for the great outdoors, and I want to provide visitors a place to come and enjoy the beauty of Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary – an independent non-profit 300-acre protected sanctuary for more than 2,000 species located in Brentwood, TN.
My Project and Goal
My Eagle Scout Project will consist of deconstructing and rebuilding an existing observation deck for Owl’s Hill. The new platform deck will be built using wooden and synthetic lumber. With the help from Troop 1 scouts, friends, family, and other volunteers, I plan to deconstruct and remove the existing observation deck from the project site, set new footings and posts, and assemble the pre-cut wood framing, synthetic wood decking, and integral bench seating. I anticipate starting the measuring and pre-cutting of the new deck in late April, with the demolition of the existing deck starting in early May. The project from start to finish should take approximately 5-6 weekends.

As you can imagine, fundraising is a crucial piece to my project’s success. I have met with local lumber companies, hardware stores, and other local businesses to present my project, as well as to inquire about potential material donations or discounts. It is a big project requiring approximately $5500 in equipment and materials. I am asking for your financial support in helping me raise the funds to facilitate my project's success. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
