Caroline Turns 60: help us grow something special

The 16th of February is Caroline’s 60th birthday and we’re hoping to mark it with something special - but we need you and all those who love her to make it possible and extra meaningful!

Caroline is many wonderful things. In particular, anyone who knows her has seen how she cares and worries for our planet and the challenges it's facing. She's an earth-loving, bird-listening, tree-whispering soul.

So, for her 60th birthday, we're hoping to gift her a Giant Sequoia tree through The Great Reserve project.

The donation goal is the cost to purchase and plant a Giant Sequoia with The Great Reserve.

Why a Giant Sequoia tree?

Giant Sequoia's are the world's largest trees and the fastest-growing conifer.

They can grow up to a staggering 300ft tall, 36ft wide and live over 3000 years.

They're very efficient at capturing carbon, which is why The Great Reserve is using them to tackle carbon sequestration through planting sequoia trees in Wales.

The goal of The Great Reserve project is to plant 100,000 trees in a network of forests across the UK. You can read more about the project here.

Each Giant Sequoia planted can capture more CO2 than the average UK lifetime emission (offsetting an entire lifetime's carbon footprint!).

Unlike a lot of tree-planting projects relying on monocultures, every Giant Sequoia tree comes with its own mini-grove covering 100m2.

An additional twenty native trees are also planted alongside to support the sequoia's healthy growth and encourage wider biodiversity.

What's it to Caroline?

Caroline knows and loves this project and having her own Giant Sequoia would mean so much to her.

It would provide goodness to the world for the rest of her life and many, many years afterwards too.

Caroline will be able to go to Wales and plant the tree herself, as well as receive a personalised plaque and the coordinates of her very own giant sequoia tree, which she can then visit whenever she likes.

Why and by when should I donate?

It would mean so much to Caroline if this gift was materialised and grown through the coming together of the many beautiful people in her life.

So however much you can donate, even if it's just £1 to have your hand in the planting process, please help us blossom this project by 13th February 2024 (to give us processing time!).

We'd love to create a large tree montage of words from those who care about her, to gift to Caroline alongside this present on her birthday.
