Can you please help Carol and Mariah

On the morning of December 15, a post on FaceBook caught my eye. A woman I met while volunteering every month at the First Baptist Church of Bolingbrook food pantry posted on #PayItForwardBolingbrook. Carol Giebel posted that she was looking for someone to light the pilot light on her water heater. Easy peazy. My cousin, Annie, also knows Carol from the food pantry. Annie sent her brother, Michael, to light the pilot light. What Michael encountered when he entered Carol’s house broke his heart. No longer easy peazy…
Carol’s issue goes beyond a pilot light. It’s broken. Carol is a senior citizen and low-income Bolingbrook resident. She takes care of her 29 year old special needs daughter, Mariah. Both ladies are visually impaired and rely solely on each other with little to no outside assistance. Not only have they not been able to have warm running water, their furnace is broken. Michael noticed it was very cold in her house and asked if her furnace was working. Carol indicated that it is not working, and they use space heaters. Carol’s low income does not allow her the luxury to get her water heater fixed or her furnace replaced. Cold water sponge baths and cold days and nights are their current standard of living.
This convinced me, Annie and Michael to take action to see if we could help these ladies. Annie has reached out to her boss, the pastor of a church in Hinsdale, and his church has graciously offered to donate the money to cover the cost of replacing the water heater and labor! However, that still leaves the furnace.
We know it has been a rough year for so many but any amount you can spare would be greatly appreciated. If the amount for the furnace can’t be raised, we will use the money to help them with other necessary work they need around their home as there is much work to be done. In the very least, please keep Carol and Mariah in your prayers.
Thank you and God Bless.
