Support Ms. Carol Hemingway's Family

Ms. Carol Hemingway was a lifelong organizer -- her loving soul, wisdom, and relentless commitment to liberation were an inspiration and source of strength to everyone who knew her. Ms. Carol joined the Philly Thrive staff in fall 2019 and was a pivotal part of our winning the permanent closure of the PES oil refinery in February 2020, and launching our Right to Thrive campaign in October 2020. Her decades of organizing experience, and fierce belief in the power of Philadelphians enriched our organization, and all of our lives. 

Ms. Carol entered into the hospital in late January, and passed away on March 3rd.  We are fundraising to support her family with medical costs. 

Ms. Carol was a beloved family member, community leader, dear friend, dog mom, and mentor to so many. Philly Thrivers are grieving her loss and will be for a long time to come; we look forward to memorializing Ms Carol with her family, former organizing partners, and other loved ones in the months to come.

All funds raised will support Ms. Carol's family with medical bills and funeral arrangements. Any surplus funds will go towards a "Carol Hemingway Organizer Training", being initiated by Philly Thrive in honor of Ms. Carol's decades of commitment to training poor and working class Black leaders to win a better world.
