Our story: as some of you know, Mike and I have been trying to get pregnant with our second child for the last three years. We have a wonderful five-year-old son, Edwin, who we have very much wanted to give a sibling, but the road to achieving this has been long and difficult. Although we didn’t have trouble conceiving the first time around, we’ve had no luck since.

Last year, we underwent five rounds of IUI—or artificial insemination. We did all the tests and prepared as best we could to become pregnant again. We paid out of pocket for these, as neither of our insurance plans cover any aspect of fertility treatment, but all five rounds were all ultimately unsuccessful.

Our last, best hope to grow our family now lies with In-vitro Fertilization, and we have begun the process of preparing for a round of IVF this summer with a low-cost clinic out of state, but it’s still a worryingly expensive endeavor.
