Carl's Kidney is a Match!
This is Carl - devoted husband, talented musician, pastor and father of 6 crazy kiddos - and he is a match to donate his kidney to a dear family friend struggling with kidney failure.
Because this friend has type O blood, she was destined to have a harder time locating a donor (type O blood can donate to all other blood types but can only accept from other type O's) but, as it turns out, Carl has type O blood.
Carl admits that if his wife had not donated a kidney last fall (Amity Township Mom Donates Kidney) he might not have considered being the one to meet the same need close to home. It took almost a year of testing but they finally have a date for the transplant surgery - May 7th!
While the Kremers are excited to bring their friend back to renewed health, there are some financial implications for Carl's family that we're hoping to offset. Carl's medical expenses are covered by the recipient's insurance only for three months post-surgery. In addition, Carl and Kim will incur travel expenses to and from New Jersey for testing, the surgery itself and follow-up care, and Kim will be taking time off to care for Carl during his recovery.
Kim's employer and co-workers are extremely supportive of this process - as they were when she donated her kidney - but she is an hourly employee and will not have enough PTO to cover her time away from work to care for Carl during his recovery.
To make the donation process run more smoothly for the Kremers, we are asking for any monetary help that you are able to provide . No gift is too small.
