Caring for Family Struggling with Dementia, Cancer, and Debt
Donation protected
25 years ago I made that picture of my sister, my mother, and my dad (as rabbits). I posted it on my first website, to tell everyone that I dedicated my artwork to them.
Now my parents are facing their twilight years with serious issues, and nothing's more important to me than making their lives as easy as I can.
My mother is suffering from late-stage dementia consistent with Alzheimer's. I'm her sole caregiver. Last year we were fortunate enough to receive help, and I'm truly thankful. But more has happened.
High property taxes are overdue, our credit card debt is considerable, we're isolated, our car is badly in need of repair, and I still need to care for my mother constantly as her condition worsens, while also tending to our house and a very, very old family dog. I've barely managed to carry us up to now with prior support, my work as an artist, and a salary as a paid caregiver. My sister helps as much as she's able, but she has her own family far from where I am.
And now my father has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer.
It goes without saying that questions of treatment and comfort have added significant weight to our family's burdens. So I'm reaching out.
I would like to raise $10,000 to mitigate some of these issues. We could at least pay the property tax, lower our debt a bit, repair the car, and most importantly, ease the minds of good people who have spent their lives giving me and my sister their all as their respective hardships progress.
I want to give my all to them. But when it's not enough, I have to ask for help.
Anything you can give would be more than appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to listen.
