Sailing with Intention
We are Steve Chmura and Amy Bowler. We are nurses and the founders of Care2Go Sailing, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created to serve isolated people on remote islands. Through basic medical care, health education and training, we are helping improve life for those without these resources. We can’t do it alone. We need your help.
In order to reach those we serve, we are raising money to help finalize the operational costs of expanding a non-profit organization. One hundred percent of the monies raised will go toward crucial medical equipment and supplies, shipping expenses for donated supplies and to offset some of the operational expenses. Why a boat? The boat will serve as an office, transport, clinic space, and housing. It is a vital component of Care2Go Sailing. Kaya is a catamaran big enough to accommodate life aboard for crew and volunteers as well as storage for medical supplies to bring on the islands.
What is it all about?
Care2Go Sailing is about serving others. We are dedicated to reaching people often overlooked due to location or lack of larger populations.
Throughout our lives and nursing careers, we have been impacted heavily by the profound needs and lack of resources available to people living in isolated regions. Alaska, our home, is a perfect example. There are many villages that can only be reached by boat, plane or snow machine. A well-developed network of health clinics and health aide teaching has been implemented in many of these villages with great success. We have the fortune to be able to share this type of foundation and are taking it to the islands of Vanuatu in the South Pacific.
Our vision has many aspects. First and foremost, our goal is to provide basic medical, dental and vision care. In addition, we are able to share a format of the clinic and health aide program used in Alaska. We will help identify and begin training health aides and help in building clinics, as the foundation of medical care for the villages. Once a clinic is established and running well, we will move to another location to help develop a clinic there. Before moving to another location, we will return to the initial clinic to help with updates as needed. We will continue to return to each clinic to offer support until they are fully operational.
Other focuses include clean water systems, water storage, sanitation and women/children’s rights. These are just a few of the areas in the 2030 National Sustainable Development Plan of Vanuatu has that we will be helping impact as well.
Networking began before Care2Go Sailing was officially founded. The Ministry of Health of Vanuatu, World Health Organization (WHO), and Medical Sailing Missions are a few of the organizations we are working with to best serve the populations of the islands.
Why Crowd Funding?
Care2Go Sailing will function fully from the boat that we have given much of our retirement and savings to purchase. We are reaching out for help to raise money for necessary medical equipment, supplies, and to help offset some operating expenses. Kaya is much more than just a sailboat. She is headquarters, office space, storage facility and transport for medical supplies and equipment. She is a portable clinic and housing for crew and volunteers. Care2Go Sailing is a project of great magnitude and we will launch full time when we are able to reach the financial goal. For this, we need your help.
100% of your donations will go directly to toward operational expenses and needed medical supplies and equipment. All donations are tax deductible.
We are so grateful for your support and donations. It is only with your help that we can make an impact on others who don’t have basic resources we often take for granted.
DONATE: Donations are 100% tax deductible.
VOLUNTEER: Volunteers will stay aboard Kaya. A medical background is not necessary, just the desire to give your time and talents to help others in need.
