Hi! For those of you who don’t know me my name is Abi. I am currently organizing a project to create and distribute care packages for people experiencing homelessness in Northern Virginia and Washington DC.
I am raising funds to create care packages for people experiencing homelessness in the NOVA and DC area. These packages contain essential items that many of us take for granted but can make an enormous difference in someone’s day-to-day survival and dignity. This project started as a solo effort, and I’ve seen firsthand how a simple care package can spark a conversation, offer comfort, and remind someone that they haven’t been forgotten. I’m hoping to expand this work by partnering with members of my community to assemble and distribute packages together.
As a psychology student, I’ve learned that many people experiencing homelessness live with a mental health disorder. These aren’t just statistics—they are our neighbors, veterans, former students, parents, and siblings who deserve compassion and support. My personal experiences have opened my eyes to how fragile the line between stability and crisis can be, and I believe so strongly that everyone deserves basic dignity, regardless of their circumstances.
Every dollar will go directly towards supplies for the care packages, which include bottled water, non-perishable snacks, hygiene essentials (like toothbrushes, toothpaste, wet wipes, tissues, and combs), warm clothing items (such as dry socks, gloves, and ponchos), and a bag to carry everything. My starting goal is to assemble 50 packages. If we exceed that, every additional dollar will go toward creating more packages.
If you’re in the NOVA or DC area and want to help assemble or distribute care packages, I’d love to have you join us! Please reach out to [email redacted] if you’re interested in volunteering. Every donation, share, or kind thought helps, and your support means everything. Thank you for considering a donation and for caring about our community.
