CARE HUB CLOSED: Help Displaced Unhoused People in Kingston

Hello!

We are starting this gofundme on behalf of the support workers of the Integrated Care Hub (ICH) and associated safe injection site, the Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) in Kingston, ON to provide much-needed resources to the unhoused population.

After violence that transpired on Thursday, September 12th, the ICH and CTS, as well as the unhoused encampment that surrounds the location have been closed and evacuated as part of a crime scene. As such, the people that live there and rely on their services have been displaced. The services offered at these locations, including meal services, counselling, harm reduction supplies, and shelter beds are thus not currently available to this vulnerable population. Further, the people in the encampment were unable to collect their belongings, including their life savings and many sentimental items.

The incredible staff of these locations are working to increase resource availability to support these people at other shelters around Kingston, and need your support to do so. Many people do not have shelter or food at the moment, including youth. This is going to remain the case for an undetermined amount of time, after threats from the mayor to close the ICH and CTS, leaving the population that heavily relies on their service with no resources. It is important to understand that the lack of accessible resources available to this population is the reason violence occurs. These people are repeatedly failed by the system and need your help. Any donation you can provide will be used to feed people and support the unhoused population during this emergency. Please note donations will be directed to ICH and CTS staff members to use on the ground for food or other needed supports.
