I can't believe it has come to this but here we are. As many of you know my mom Bobbi has stage 4 metastatic cancer. What you may not know is this once bright, intelligent, articulate and funny woman is now struggling with cognitive impairment. I am her only child, her only living family member.
It is an absolute honor to care for the woman who worked three jobs, paid my way through nursing school and has always been my number one supporter.
In navigating her new care needs I realize just how broken our system is. My mom falls into the category of too functional for long term care and not well enough to be left alone at home. It has been suggested that I take out a loan or ask family members for support so I can take an unpaid leave from work to care for her. Hospital staff recommended starting a go fund me. Initially my pride stopped me but I realize now that with the cost of meds, supplies and the fact that mom will only allow me to bathe and dress her we may need some help.
There are so many people who need a helping hand, my mom would be the first to offer assistance, but now she needs me more than ever.
any and all help is beyond appreciated and more than the help itself are thoughts and prayers.
