Care as Resistance

Funding safety, dignity, and survival in the face of rising fascism

We are neighbors and community members coming together in a moment of real urgency.

Across the country, immigrants, refugees, survivors of violence, trans people, and other marginalized communities are facing escalating harm through detention and deportation, barriers to healthcare, criminalization, dehumanization, and the normalization of cruelty. These threats are not abstract. They are happening here and now.

This fundraiser is one way we respond: collectively, locally, and in partnership with organizations doing essential, life-saving and life-altering work.

Where the funds will go

Funds raised will support the following Massachusetts-based organizations:

  • Boston Community Pediatrics (BCP) – Trauma-informed pediatric care for children and families, regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.
  • Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN / “Beyond”) – Community accompaniment, court support, and bond fundraising for people navigating the immigration system.
  • IMPACT Boston – Violence prevention and survivor support through trauma-informed self defense training and culturally responsive education programs.
  • MA Women of Color Network (MASSWOCN) – Professional support for women of color working in the domestic violence/sexual abuse movements in Massachusetts.
  • Mutual Aid Medford & Somerville (MAMAS) – Direct mutual aid by and for neighbors, including groceries, clothes and skillshares for neighbors in Medford and Somerville.

Together, these groups provide healthcare, immigration justice, survivor support, and mutual aid, meeting urgent needs while resisting systems that endanger our communities.

Why we’re doing this again

During Inauguration Week 2025, we launched our first ever Defiance Day and our community raised $35,635 from 173 donors in one week, supporting immigrant justice and healthcare organizations across Massachusetts. That effort showed what’s possible when we act together.

This year, as fascist rhetoric, policy and abuse intensifies, we’re returning to this part of our work expanded and grounded in a year of collaboration with local organizations.

A note on fundraising

We know fundraising alone isn’t enough. Money doesn’t replace organizing, mutual aid, or collective action. But it does keep clinics open, bonds paid, survivors supported, and neighbors cared for right now.

In addition to fundraising, we’ve built a growing network committed to direct action and mutual support as the stakes grow more dire. If you’re looking for ways to get involved beyond donating, you’re welcome to reach out. We’ll do our best to connect people to additional opportunities for action.

Who we are

This fundraiser is organized by a relatively small but mighty network of volunteers. We are largely based in the greater Somerville area. The more participation we receive, the easier it is to administer this fundraiser and get resources where they’re needed most.

When communities are under attack, neutrality isn’t an option. Thank you for choosing care, solidarity, and collective survival.
