Help Colleen & Her Daughter After a Car Crashed Into Their Home

Hi, my name is Chelsey, and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend and fellow advocate Colleen and her daughter. Many of you know that last year my family went through a house fire, and we learned firsthand how even with safety nets, insurance, and community support, there are always gaps. Unexpected expenses, loss of work, stress, and the sheer emotional toll can be overwhelming. Even in a situation like this where she has prepared with insurance and tried to do everything "right" there will be outstanding expenses and added stress!

Colleen and her daughter are now facing a crisis of their own. On August 16, 2025, a car involved in a high-speed chase left the road, crashed into their home, and caused major structural damage. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, but the house has been condemned and they are unable to live there.

Colleen shared this on Facebook:

"Many of you sent a message to me or stopped at my house last night when an unfortunate accident occurred and a car full of teenagers ended up in my front porch and smashing into the front of my house. There is a great deal of structural damage, but I have to say that overall nobody was seriously hurt and I’m super grateful for that. I am super grateful for every single one of you that stopped at my house, called me and expressed concern and also willingness to help. I must say that I’m exhausted today because I did not sleep well last night—all I could do was envision that car coming at me as I saw it jump the curb and hit my house as I was standing in my driveway. I have the absolute best neighbors in the world. And I’m not talking one or two—there were five or six different neighbors that swung over to make sure we were OK. Thank you everybody. I also wanna thank all of the responders, police officers, and firefighters that came to help. They were all super amazing, supportive, and very understanding."

Colleen is not only a dedicated sign language interpreter, but also someone who uses her skills far beyond her day job to support accessibility and inclusion across our community. She has been an incredible advocate, teacher, and source of support for my daughter Adrianna. Her daughter has also been a respite provider and childcare helper for our family. They have been there for us in meaningful ways, and now it’s our turn to be there for them.

This fundraiser will help cover immediate needs—safe housing, essentials for Colleen, her daughter, and their pets—and the unexpected expenses that come with navigating a crisis like this. Insurance and legal processes can take months, but the bills and disruptions are happening right now.
