I appreciate anyone and everyone who takes a moment of their day to pause and read this plea for help. This request is not for myself, but for a 44 year old man and his dog Tobi, who have recently become homeless by no fault of their own. I met Richard and Tobi by responding to a Facebook post Richard had made on a local Vero Beach Facebook page. I offered to bring him some dog food for his pup Tobi as we had just recently lost our dog and had a lot of food left just sitting around. I went to visit Richard and Tobi to drop off the food and learned a bit more about him and his situation. They are currently living out of his broken down truck in a parking lot where he will most likely be kicked out of soon. They are having a really tough time in this oppressive heat. He wants to get back to work and has job offers, but no way to get to these places. The truck is beyond repair. I have been helping him find and contact resources like showers, food, Camp Haven and taking him to places like United Against Poverty. Many wonderful people have stepped up and responded with wonderful offers from a FB post I put out locally. Many have brought him food, water and even money. There were even job offers. He is so grateful for everything and everyone that has come his way so far. My plea here is to secure enough funds for him to purchase, register and insure another vehicle with possibly a little left over for a place to stay for a week or two while he gets a job. I have a local repair shop owner willing to work with us on a vehicle he has on his lot. All we need is a little help in getting him that vehicle so he can take one of these jobs and get back on his feet. He has never once asked for money. He just wants to survive and keep he and Tobi fed and sheltered. Thank you for considering helping these two lost souls get off the street.
