For over 25 years, the Westchester Food Pantry has provided food for our neighbors in need. But never has the demand for assistance been greater than in 2020. Since March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a 70% increase in the number of clients served. Through the tenacity of our volunteers and the generosity of our community, we've been able to stay open and meet this surge of demand on the Pantry.
While the Westchester Food Pantry has weathered this crisis, another crisis of another great proportion happened. We will be losing our home. With the Westchester Village Hall moving to a new location in early 2021, we needed to find a new home.
Searching since the beginning of July, we finally found a great building for sale, at a nice, affordable price. It is the building located at 1938 S. Mannheim Road in Westchester. After a lengthy uphill battle, we finally closed on this property on November 24. In order to make building repairs, and the necessary building enhancements for it to be volunteer/client friendly, plus buying additional equipment to operate as a food pantry, it is essential for us to meet our Go Fund Me goal.
