Canticle Of The Sun St. Ita's Mural

Donation protected
The Lytle House Art Initiative works to put up pieces of art throughout the Edgewater area of Chicago (https://www.thelytlehouse.com/art-initiative.html).

St. Ita's Church is located on the corner of Catalpa and Broadway in Chicago, IL. After expressing interest in accepting a large scale mural installation, we designed a piece off of the song, Canticle of the Sun which was composed by St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of St. Ita's. The artwork will span the back of two buildings housing the St. Thomas of Canterbury School.

This artwork will transform the entire block as well as compliment the existing nearby murals. In addition to being highly visible to traffic up and down Broadway, it will be visible to many of the surrounding apartment buildings and high rises.

The funds collected will be used solely for labor on the installation. The paint and the boom lifts that are needed have both been graciously donated. Over 70 gallons of paint and three workers will be utilized.

Once the funds are raised, work can begin as soon as we have a stretch of weather 50 degrees or higher.  Based on this we would anticipate no later than a Spring install.

Studies show that public art contributes to a community's identity, fosters community pride and a sense of belonging, and enhances the quality of life for its residents and visitors.

Please consider donating to this initiative to enrich our neighborhood and add to Edgewater's growing portfolio of public art.
