Hello! This is Jaimie, a current breast cancer patient. Haiden is my 16-year-old teen. We each have had significant struggles over the past six months, and we have decided to do something about it!
I am providing cancer center staff with quarterly appreciation events this year. I asked one of the senior infusion nurses what they would want. She has worked there over 20 years; she said that no one has ever asked her that. That was my call to action. My first event will be to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), and my Scout troop and I will be putting together thank you bags with gift cards and homemade cookies! I do have a few friends helping with cookies! The next events would be in December, March, and June. Your donations will go directly to appreciate the employees of the cancer center.
Haiden is working on a teen mental health book club. A safe place for teen high school students to read a book and then discuss it. The group will discuss resilience, overcoming, and support for one another through a book club, free to all participants.
These past six months have been the most challenging for our family and now that I am done with chemotherapy, I am ready to do something to give back to the fantastic health care workers and staff to let them know how important their work is. I have NEVER had such an amazing team of folks in my corner, including my Oncologist, lab techs, infusion nurses, and everyone there. Please consider helping me to help others. Haiden has a goal of completing their Girl Scout Gold Award, this is the start of that. Haiden is very passionate about reducing the stigma around mental health; this is one way Haiden hopes to be a leader in this space and to create a safe space for teen peers.
Haiden and I will provide full accountability for the use of these funds. Thank you for considering helping us to help others. October is right between Haiden and my birthdays, so we thought it would be a great time to launch!!
