Cancer Aid Thrift Shop Needs a New Roof!

Have you or a loved one been affected by cancer in Nevada County? Chances are, we’ve been there to help.

Cancer Aid Thrift Shop (CATS) was established by Vivian B. Cerro Huson in 1971 and is run by volunteers. For over 50 years, we have used our profits to reimburse up to $8,000 to each of our registered Nevada County cancer patients with cancer-related expenses. We reimburse their copays for chemo, radiation, scans, prescriptions, mileage, and many other cancer-related items. In addition, CATS maintains a large inventory of medical equipment and supplies that are supplied at no charge to our cancer patients.

Unfortunately, our roof is leaking in three areas inside the shop. We have patched the roof, but now it’s apparent that the roof needs to be replaced. Since COVID, our income has declined, and we have been operating at a loss. The cost of replacing the roof may cause us to reduce the amount we pay to each cancer patient.
