Can you help me build a house in Cambodia?
Together with students from All Saints’ College and The Studio School, we are fundraising for a community project called Village House Build Cambodia, supporting families in rural Siem Reap who are living in very difficult conditions. This tour and its activities are part of the Service Learning program at All Saints’ College and The Studio School and reflect the mission and values of All Saints’ College through compassion, service and global citizenship.
Village House Building Cambodia (VHBC) is a locally run, community-driven NGO founded by local Khmer man Sinn Meang in 2014. The organisation helps poor Cambodian families improve their living conditions by providing safe housing, wells, water pumps and toilet facilities.
VHBC builds solid, liveable homes for families who do not have the resources to build their own. Families are carefully assessed so that support goes to those most in need.
Many families in rural Siem Reap still live on less than $1 a day, and many do not have access to safe water or adequate sanitation. This project helps provide not only shelter, but also dignity, safety and hope for a better future.
Water for Cambodia – We help construct water filters before travelling to two remote villages to install them. These filters have a significant impact by reducing illness and deaths, especially among children, in communities where the only available water source is polluted rivers. Each filter lasts up to 10 years.
Treak Community Centre – This centre provides education and English lessons to young children who cannot afford to attend school. It also teaches sewing skills to older young people, who can then sell their products, and encourages innovation by collecting plastic waste and incorporating it into handmade bricks. We spend two days at the centre running activities and helping children improve their English.
Every donation, big or small, will help make a real difference.
Thank you for your support.
