This fund was created after the events on, April 30th, 2024, when the UNC administration locked down the Campus Y building indefinitely. While it has since re-opened, building hours have been greatly reduced.
Many students use and depend on the Campus Y for various resources such as the food pantry, wheelchair-accessible and gender-neutral restrooms, the Global Gap and Bridge Year program, study spaces, and numerous other programming and community resources. The Campus Y has always stood for space for aid and fostering community. With the Board of Governors' vote to ban DEI, we also know that this is a further push toward taking away the collective community at UNC.
In response, student leaders have mobilized to provide impromptu resources and programming for the community, showing the power of radical love, engagement, and equity. We ask the North Carolina Triangle community to come together to take what they need and donate what they can.
Monetary donations will directly support students and community members through mutual aid events and resources (menstrual products, hygiene products, etc.) around campus and at the Y. Physical donations can always be made at the Y.
Now more than ever is the time to come together and show the administration our power and fight for collective liberation. We keep us safe.
