Hi, my name is Tairong,
I am excited to have been offered an opportunity to visit Kenya by Wade Deacon High School and Camps International to take part in helping the local rural community and get involved in a range of sustainable projects, from community development to environmental conservation. All students are required to fundraise to help to pay for the trip and kit, hence the purpose of this page. 38% of all monies raised will go directly to the communities we are looking to support.
It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to live alongside local people spending my days working on sustainable projects with local people, helping to support the local community, wildlife and environment. Get to know the inspiring Mamas of the local village who will teach us traditional skills, meet the world-famous Maasai Tribe and experience the magic of a safari at Tsavo East National Park – one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations. This will broaden my perspective on the world and hopefully leave a lasting positive impact on these communities.
The expedition is fully supported with goals that are aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development which designed to make a significant and lasting impact on the region’s most critical issues. I will be taking part in building or renovating school buildings so the local children have a clean and safe academic environment. I will involve in initiatives to promote a peaceful co-existence between the community and the local wildlife, such as improving natural waterholes and planting indigenous trees for habitat and food sources.
Kenya has a population of about 52.4 million people and 9.5 million of them live in poverty, living on less than $1.25 (£1) a day. As well as this Kenya is considered to be one of the most beautiful but also one of the poorest countries in the world. So, expeditions like this really help to improve statistics like these.
We will travel between different camps to experience life in the real African wilderness. Marungu Hills that lie close to the world famous Tsavo National Parks, this area is famed for its wildlife and providing a safe haven for elephants, lions, cheetahs and other amazing animals.
I will be doing lots of activities throughout the following year to show my commitment to the cause and to try and raise money for the trip. Any donations, however small, would be most welcome and appreciated.
Thank you,
Tairong
