Cameron Shine - Raising for Recovery

Cameron had been living in South Florida for the three years prior to his passing and was very much involved in the sober living community. He spoke at community gatherings, drove members to work each morning, fought for others and guided young men on their path to recovery. Cameron was loved in the community and returned the love. He enjoyed his time in Florida, sought out the people who he truly cared for and who deeply cared for him. Cam had many wonderful supporters.

Cameron’s sponsor's name is Steven Farnsworth. Steve began his personal recovery in 1989. He has maintained his sobriety since and has been actively engaged in helping others with their recovery. Steve has a passion for supporting recovery events of all types and promoting hope within the recovery community.

Steve is currently the Executive Director of the Florida Association of Recovery Residences  (FARR), a non‐profit organization that advocates for legitimate recovery residence providers and protects their interests from the negative effects of unethical providers.

Steve also sits on the boards of the Recovery Community Center  (RCC) and the Recovery High School .

Recently he has become involved in the launching of a dual-purpose facility.  This will be a “respite” for people to stay for a few days after they’ve relapsed and need to provide a clean drug screen in order to get back into their recovery residence.  Clean rooms, a safe respectful environment and meals are provided.

We are raising funds for the following organizations to help provide the resources needed to those on their path to recovery:

FARR
FARR (Florida Association of Recovery Residences) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, selected by the state as the credentialing body for substance use recovery residences. FARR  supports Recovery Residence providers in their effort to deliver quality recovery-oriented housing opportunities to persons in recovery who seek to reside in peer supportive environments. They believe that all people have the right to recover in an atmosphere which meets their special needs as well as their basic needs for safety, dignity and respect. Steve and FARR are in charge of certifying sober living communities and determining that it meets their safety, dignity and respect standards.
FARR is dependent upon certification fees and donations.  FARR also launched a Partner in Excellence program where recovering addicts can have access to legal aid, furniture, food services, massage therapy and acupuncture, health groups and more.

STEVE’S HOME
Steve's house is not a business; it is his home.  He invites recovery addicts to stay there that he trusts and asks them to pay $175 a week to help with the bills and upkeep.  If he is lucky, about one out of ten pays anything and fewer than that ever pay him back after leaving. Cameron stayed at Steve's home for many months (and was fortunate enough to pay :).  All the money Steves makes personally and all money that tenants give him for their stay goes back into helping those who can not pay and helping others on their path to recovery.

Thank you for your support a million times over!!
