I am embarking on a medical mission and humanitarian trip through Project Helping Hands this September. This is a nonsectarian nonprofit organization that sends teams of volunteers on missions into developing nations to provide basic medical care and health education. My work partners with this organization to send one staff member. I applied and was selected. And now I'm ready for action.
I will be supporting a team of medical professionals from all over the US to conduct educational classes and community medical clinics. We will be based in the capitol city of Phnom Penh providing education to students, as well as help the adults and children in communities of most need within the city. We will also be traveling to the more rural area of Kratie to conduct additional medical clinics. Since I am non-medical, my role is to help lift, carry and run - as well as teach things like brushing teeth, washing hands, and nutrition. With my yoga background, I plan to teach some basic breath and postures that can assist people with stress. There is a prevalence of PTSD within Cambodia, so it is my mission to share my practice to help those in need. (Learn more about PTSD in Cambodia. )
The care we provide to the people of Cambodia relies upon the team carrying all of our medical supplies on our backs and in our luggage. What we bring is what we have, and nothing more. That's where YOU come in...
I am asking for monetary donations towards the purchase of medical supplies from our trip's supply list. ALL of the money you donate will be used to purchase medical supplies and medications used to treat, educate and help the people of Cambodia. Any amount - big, small, and in-between will make a HUGE impact.
Namaste my friends, and Thank You - let this great adventure begin.
