Hello! I'm Miya Ellen Coathup, a 15-year-old student at Ricards Lodge High School in London. I'm thrilled to share that in 2027, I'll be heading off on an incredible 4-week expedition to Cambodia with Camps International. This adventure isn't just a trip—it's a chance to dive into community development work, environmental projects, and wildlife conservation in rural Cambodian villages. We'll be trekking through the lush Cambodian jungle and the Phnom Kulen mountain range, exploring the ancient Angkor Wat temples, and learning about the country's rich culture and history, including visits to sites like the S21 Prison and Killing Fields. It's all about making a real difference while stepping out of my comfort zone in one of Southeast Asia's most fascinating destinations.
This expedition means the world to me because it's an opportunity to grow in ways I never imagined. I'll be building key life skills like leadership, communication, team building, independence, and problem-solving—skills that will stick with me long after I return home. I'm excited to immerse myself in a new culture, work alongside local communities to improve education, access to clean water, and living standards, and contribute to protecting endangered wildlife and fragile ecosystems. Sure, I'm a bit nervous about being away from home for a month, meeting new people, and facing unfamiliar challenges in a different environment, but I know that's where the real magic happens. As someone who's passionate about helping others and exploring the world, this journey will broaden my perspective and inspire me to keep giving back. It's not just about the adventure; it's about creating lasting positive change and coming back stronger, more confident, and ready for whatever comes next.
Every donation will go directly towards funding my expedition costs, including travel, accommodation, project materials, and on-the-ground support through Camps International. This ensures I can fully participate in building classrooms, planting trees, conserving biodiversity, and supporting rural communities where poverty levels are high and resources are limited. Your support will help turn this dream into reality and amplify the impact we make together—thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of my story! Let's make this happen—one step, one donation at a time.
