Around the corner from the beautiful new 26th Sreet Green, the Charles Village Civic Association moved the overgrown and derelict original iron B&O/CSX fence back 13 feet from the sidewalk to create the new Calvert Street Green, a welcoming community place to relax and watch the trains as they travel the mid-Atlantic corridor. Simple, sustainable landscaping, benches atop newly constructed brick pads and interpretive signage explaining the history and importance of this corridor all contribute to a meaningful new asset to south Charles Village.
We are asking for the community's help in funding two benches for the brick pads. The benches will be a memorial to Reggie Parker, a community activist, Charles Village booster, volunteer and CVCA board member. Reggie worked tirelessly with local businesses and community groups to ensure that Charles Village was a neighborhood that welcomed and supported all its residents.
Your donations will be used to fund the purchase and installation of the benches, one on the east side of Calvert Street on the Green and the other across the street next to the 26th Street Playground.
