Help the Shuar Indigenous Communities of the Amazon Protect Themselves!
The coronavirus has reached indigenous rainforest territories in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Indigenous populations are extremely vulnerable to disease due to persistent inequality, exclusion and discrimination in general access to public services, as well as their geographic isolation.
New cases are reported daily, and Shuar indigenous elders, guardians of thousands of years of ancestral knowledge about the Amazon rainforest and how to protect it, are at risk from COVID.
Ecuador’s death toll from coronavirus is already among the worst in the world, but in the indigenous Amazon, there are grave challenges to diagnosis and treatment due to lack of infrastructure, testing and access to basic supplies. The Shuar community has been hit hard from COVID, and they are barely surviving using on their natural remedies to fight off the disease!
This is a call for help and Solidarity with the Shuar peoples in the Ecuadorian Amazon! The situation is bad our brothers and sisters, family, and nation is at risk. With no help from the authorities we are pleading with the world to help save protect our community!

The Shuar family are protectors of the Amazon jungle of Ecuador. As partners of the "Anisha Nunka" project and protectors of the ancient Shuar territories, we are located in the Buena Esperanza Amazon-Ecuadorian community. We understand the pandemic and a global crisis that affects the world and the most vulnerable people, especially indigenous people. As Indigenous communities, we are the most isolated here on our traditional territory. Our communities have been neglected by the government amidst this pandemic, and we are worried for the peoples of our land. We are doing everything we can to protect ourselves, but know it is not enough as the disease spreads across our community. We need masks, food, clean drinking water, sanitizer and supplies.
We are speaking today from the bottom of our hearts amidst this crisis to ask from our brothers and sisters from the North and the world to help us.
What we need is enough money to be able to make 300 kits for families who are in the jungle and are ignored by the authorities. Our goal is to raise $ 12,000 to cover food, and supply expenses. These traditional families have been ignored public aid from the national government. It is typical being isolated from the cities, that they are ignored funding from the government but during this pandemic it is making life harder than ever to make ends meet and protect our most vulnerable!

We would appreciate any donation, to help out the Shuar community who at the moment have are among some of the most affected by this world crisis and national corruption in our country. Our people are starving, abandoned, and ignored. We will hold you in our hearts with gratitude for your kindness and collaboration for our Shuar brothers and sisters.
The Shuar communities are located in the centre of the Amazon jungle, isolated from the cities, with roads in poor conditions that make access difficult, these factors have not allowed them to be part of the priority development programs, especially public health. But the people Shuar have survived based on their ancestral knowledge of healing with medicinal plants and animals in the area and have been cured of acute and chronic diseases, among others without using pharmaceutical medicines. These knowledge of the wisdom of our Ancestors, Great Sages, Medicine Women and Shuar Shamans have allowed many people from different countries in Europe and America to take an interest in natural healing. In recent years many tourists and patients from different countries of the world have visited our shamans in search of healing. Visitors have managed to save themselves from diseases that were impossible in their countries of origin. This has made an alternative possible for people suffering from diseases unknown by science. We are currently in need of saving from the Global Pandemic.
