CAL DB CLIMBS FOR COMMUNITIES FUNDRAISER: HELP OUR COMMUNITY FIGHT THE ADVERSITIES PRECIPITATED BY COVID-19
In the wake of COVID-19, Californians have been asked to stay home to flatten the curve and reduce the rate of infection. For some members of our Berkeley community, staying at home isn’t an option—essential business workers, people facing homelessness, frontline workers and many others are all at risk for contracting the virus. In addition, many individuals cannot just sit comfortably at home, as non-essential businesses have closed their doors, putting workers out of jobs and increasing financial burdens. We acknowledge that food, job and health security concerns are on the rise, and that now, more than ever, we need to rally our community together. Thus, we need your donations to support these individuals in a time of uncertainty and crisis.

UPDATE: Thank you all so much for your support! With your help, we were able to reach our initial goal of $1,000 in less than a week. We have decided to increase our goal to $5,000 and continue our fundraiser for the next several weeks. We hope to raise as much money as possible to support our Berkeley communities and organizations. Who are we?
We are Cal Dragon Boat, a student-lead competitive dragon boat team with over 50 passionate and determined paddlers. Our teammates hail from diverse backgrounds and study a variety of fields, including Biology, Engineering, Rhetoric, Business, and Environmental Science. Most importantly, we are a group that believes in the power of community both on and off the water. The shelter-in-place mandate has called for an end to our training; however, this does not mean that our efforts need to be put on hold. Instead of channeling our efforts into training for our next race, we want to channel our gifts and talents into a cause that benefits our community.
What is this fundraiser?
This fundraiser is structured to resemble a ladder, where at each "rung", or monetary benchmark, Cal Dragon Boat would be tasked with completing its corresponding challenge. We need YOUR help to help us climb to the top of this ladder! See the image below for the list of challenges we have (so far ;) ), and help us get to the one you want to see!

All the proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to three local organizations that are tirelessly working to support our Berkeley community: The Berkeley Relief Fund, The Berkeley Food and Housing Project, and the Alameda County Food Bank. There are two* ways to donate to this campaign. You can either donate to this GoFundMe page or to our Venmo account (@Cal-DB).

Who Will Your Donations Support?
The Berkeley Relief Fund : The Berkeley Relief Fund is a community-based fund that supports small businesses, nonprofit arts organizations and worker rent. Donations will go toward grants that businesses and organizations can apply for to relieve financial stress. This organization works in partnership with the Berkeley City Council to make sure all members of our community can receive the help they need.
Berkeley Food and Housing Project : We believe food and housing security is a human right. Your donation will help this organization keep shelters, food services and hygiene supplies open and available for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. COVID-19 has made at-risk populations even more vulnerable to mental, physical and emotional stress, and these members of our community need us now more than ever.
Alameda County Food Bank : With so many individuals facing financial and job insecurity during these trying times, food insecurity only becomes more prevalent within our community. Your donation ensures that a nutritious meal and fresh produce reach the tables of families all over Alameda County. Every $1 donation helps provide $7 worth of food!
