Caito’s #triforhg
I’ve signed up for the Newcastle City Triathlon Sprint Distance Triathlon (750m swim, 22km cycle, 5km run) on 23rd Feb 2020 and am hoping to raise some money to support Hypermesis Gravidarum Australia.
For anyone that doesn’t already know Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) is severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and is estimated to affect around 2% of pregnant women. It is a serious condition and potentially life threatening for both mum and baby. Sadly some women need to terminate their pregnancy due to HG. It is severely debilitating, depressing and isolating and only truely understood by those that go through it.
Most people that know me would be aware that I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) for the full duration of both my pregnancies with Izzy in 2013/14 and Alex and Owen in 2017. I am so lucky I had a supportive and helpful family and GP which many other women don’t have. This can be due to a lack of awareness of the seriousness of the condition.
Hyperemesis Gravidarum Australia (HGA) is a registered charity recently formed by two awesome HG girls (Kale and Caitlin) who are working their butts off to raise awareness and support for other HG sufferers. Two other HG girls (Kaitlyn and Erin) inspired me to join them in their #triforhg challenge.
I know I’m not going to have to go through HG again but the thought of other women going through it and that my girls are now at increased risk of getting it makes me so sad. That’s why I’ve decided to join the other #triforhg girls and support HGA. Although I have done this triathlon before it was pre- kids when I was much fitter, lighter and younger and it was much easier to fit training in! It is going to be a massive physical and mental challenge for me to complete it but I know it’s nothing compared to the physical and mental challenges of HG.
Please know that I am not meaning to upset any of my friends and family or other individuals going through pregnancy or infant loss. I know how incredibly lucky we are that after our HG journey we have our 3 children.
If you are able to support me and HGA that would be greatly appreciated.
