Cairo’s Fight for Recovery – Please Help Us Support This Beautiful Young Fulla

Six months ago, our beautiful fulla Cairo was an active, strong, vibrant young man. He was full of energy, laughter, and life. Then everything changed.

After a sudden and frightening decline in his mobility, medical specialists discovered a golf‑ball‑sized lesion on his brain stem, which had caused him to lose all function on his right side. On May 21st, 2026, Cairo was admitted to John Hunter Hospital, where he bravely endured an 8.5‑hour brain surgery in the hope of removing the lesion and restoring his movement.

Despite his incredible strength and the efforts of his surgical team, the operation was not successful. Cairo remains in hospital, undergoing hours of intensive physical therapy every day as he works to retrain his brain and learn to navigate life in a completely new way. He now relies on a wheelchair for mobility and a range of aids to support his daily living.

It is expected that Cairo will remain in hospital for another 3–4 weeks, bringing his total stay to around 12 weeks. This journey has taken a tremendous toll on his whole family — his mum, little brother, and grandparents — who have been sharing overnight stays, providing full‑time support, and trying to balance work responsibilities with Cairo’s care needs.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Cairo’s family has always been the kind who give quietly, generously, and without hesitation. They have supported so many people in the community over the years. Now, they are the ones who need support.

The financial strain of reduced work hours, travel costs, meals, and the constant juggle of caring for Cairo has become overwhelming. Any contribution — no matter how small — will help ease this pressure and allow the family to focus on what matters most: being by Cairo’s side as he fights his way back to strength.

If donations allow, the family hopes to one day take Cairo on a small holiday when he is finally discharged — a chance to breathe, reconnect, and celebrate how far he has come.

How You Can Help

Your donation will directly support:

• Daily living costs while Cairo’s mum and grandparents provide full‑time care
• Hospital‑related expenses such as parking, meals, and travel
• Financial stability during reduced work hours
• A future family holiday to help Cairo heal emotionally after this long and difficult journey
This is a family who has always shown up for others. Today, we’re asking our community to show up for them.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for reading, thank you for caring, and thank you for helping Cairo and his family through the toughest chapter of their lives.
