Hi, I’m cadet Cpl Jack Carter I have been a proud member of no5 Hayward Heath for 3 years now but I believe it’s time I gave more back to the community , and I’m raising money for Cancer Research UK – a charity that means a lot to me and my family.
My girlfriend lost her dad to cancer three years ago, when she was just 13. It’s something that still affects her every day. She shared these words with me:
“Losing my dad very suddenly to cancer when I was 13 has had a major impact on my life. Three years later I still struggle with the grief and guilt of not spending enough time with him before he lost his battle with cancer. A day doesn’t go by where I don’t miss him and wish he was still here.
Thank you Jack for doing this, I cannot put into words how much this means to me.”
Cancer has also affected my own family – my cousins lost their mum to it as well. One of them said:
“Obviously I lived with my mum primarily. I lost her two weeks after my 16th birthday, and it turned my whole life upside down in ways I didn’t think it would. It brought on a lot of mental health problems like anxiety and PTSD that, even 8 years later, I’m still battling. The grief never goes away, but I’m slowly learning how to cope through support from a good network of people around me.
The cancer took my world from me, and my life could never be the same. I will miss her for the rest of my life.”
Too many of us have lost someone we love.
I’m doing this to raise money for research – to help find better treatments, and one day, a cure. Anything you can give would mean so much – every donation helps.
Thank you for your support.
