CADBI Spring Rally to End DBI!

The Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration (CADBI) has been working for years to end life sentencing in Pennsylvania. Our annual rally in Harrisburg is a crucial time for us to demand that legislators support bills to allow our loved ones the opportunity to come home from prison.

This year’s rally theme is “We Are More”. Together we will bring the presence of incarcerated loved ones into the capitol, and show our elected officials that they are more than people sentenced to die in prison and that our commonwealth is more than Death By Incarceration sentencing.

There are over 5,300 people serving Life Without Parole sentences in Pennsylvania, representing over 10% of the incarcerated population. In PA, ‘life’ means your entire life, which is why many instead call it Death By Incarceration. This harsh sentencing does not improve public safety and disproportionately impacts poor people and people of color.

We believe that denying people the right to transformation and redemption is an affront to everyone’s humanity. That's why CADBI and our allies from across the state are going to deliver a message to lawmakers that Death By Incarceration must be abolished. We are especially advocating for HB 587/SB 136, which would end DBI and virtual life sentences through medical and geriatric parole.
