Cactus Bunkhouse Furnishings!
Donation protected
Four local non-profits: Gila Watershed Partnership (GWP), Our Neighbor's Food & Pantry (ONFP), and SEACAB (Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful) have worked cohesively together to prepare a facility that can house volunteer groups that come to Graham County to help however they can. This newly-finished endowment has been named "Cactus Bunkhouse." Our Neighbor's Farm and Pantry are the proprietors of the property, which was gifted by a deceased member of our community.
Last summer AmeriCorps volunteers from all over the US descended as a crew to the Gila Valley (Safford, Thatcher, & Pima, AZ) where they committed many, many hours of contributions all over the area! They also worked in conjunction with our three above-named non-profits to completely gut and renovate a donated facility for future volunteer organizations to use as housing!
This remodeled building is absolutely beautiful. It is equipped with four bedrooms, a living room, nicely-sized kitchen, and two beautiful bathrooms. While volunteer organizations, such as AmeriCorps, come prepared to work --even in the Arizona heat-- they ofttimes only have tents and sleeping bags to use for days, weeks, and months while on assignment. This makes the Cactus Bunkhouse a one-of-a-kind housing amenity for those coming to serve Graham County, Arizona!
Gila Valley Leadership (GVL) is a program promoted by the Graham County Chamber of Commerce to assist and promote local service and leadership. GVL is in its fourteenth year and each class must come up with a service project that will benefit our community. Class XIV voted unanimously on Thursday, October 18, 2018, to fund raise and seek donations to furnish the Cactus Bunkhouse.
Gila Valley Leadership Class XIV has set a goal of $3500.00 to provide much-needed furniture and equipment this 'home' will be in need of. A cash and/or physical donation is tax deductible as benefactors are non-profits and all donations can be made to the Graham County Chamber of Commerce -- Gila Valley Leadership.
A donation to our class project will directly benefit three local non-profit organizations, as well as provide much needed shelter for volunteers who come to our community and help. Whether it's cleaning out the Gila Valley / San Francisco River Valley bed, assisting with gardening and unloading at Our Neighbor's Farm and Pantry, or volunteering at local, community events (Blues, Harvest, or Salsa Fests, etc...) these youth are here to serve our entire community.
GVL Class XIV deemed furnishing Cactus Bunkhouse as a worthy cause and wants to give back to those giving to our community. We feel this is a small chance to serve those serving us and to make a lasting impression on our community--to show their service is greatly appreciated--and, hopefully, entice other groups to serve.
If you are unable to make a financial donation, physical donations are welcome and would be a wonderful addition, too. If you are able to donate a physical item, please contact the Chamber of Commerce.
