In April of 2017 Toronto Pearson International Airport, operated by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) announced its plans to double air travel to 90 million passengers by 2040. This expansion plan will not only lead to more air traffic for the Greater Toronto Area, but it will significantly raise the levels of risk as it relates to the personal safety for those using the airport and for those living in the surrounding communities.
In August 2017 members of five concerned homeowners associations formed an independent alliance to work together as one team to gather our findings and communicate our concerns with those who are not aware of the pending operational changes at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Since then we have gained support from more than 19 communities and several elected officials at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels of Government.
Our organization is called the "Community Alliance for Air Safety" (CAAS) and we welcome all residents who are concerned about the safety of airline passengers and our communities.
ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS REQUIRED TO MEET OUR GOALS !!
Our mandate is to educate and raise awareness that the GTAA and NAV Canada are operating with limited oversight by Transport Canada.
All of the CAAS members are volunteers.
Our membership is open to all residents of affected communities across Canada and has the support of many homeowners associations.
Our board of directors role is to ensure CAAS continues to focus on the publicly stated goals of the organization.
We are specifically focused on holding those responsible for the operations and oversight of air travel in Canada to the highest level of international standards and best practices.
All CAAS spending decisions will be made by a majority vote of the Board and must support the goals and objectives of CAAS.
