C.A.A.R.E. Bags - No Child Should Feel Disposable
Donation protected
Thankful for food. Thankful for our loved ones. Thankful for a home. Now imagine all of this being taken away in a matter of seconds.
My name is Madison Rodriguez, and I am a high school junior. My family and I have been fostering children for several years. Every child that has come into our home, comes with a disposable trash bag with their belongings or nothing at all. Imagine carrying your whole world in something meant for unwanted things to be thrown away.
Changing this reality is vital. There are other organizations that have created backpacks for foster kids, and yet to this day we still haven’t seen a child come with one. I plan to create C.A.A.R.E. (Children are Appreciated, Respected, and Empowered) bags for foster kids of Los Angeles County.
It is important to distribute a travel-friendly duffel bag that makes it easy to store in a social worker’s car on their commute to drop off/pick up foster children. Ideally, the bags would have a blanket, toothbrush, teddy bear, art expression book, and a blank journal with age-appropriate resources.
My starting goal is to make 100 bags. Ultimately, my dream is for every foster child to have something they can call their own.
Children who helplessly enter foster care, from one minute to the next, lose everything— their families, friends, homes, schools, and communities. Help change disposable plastic to durable C.A.A.R.E. bags— together we can make a difference.
No child should feel disposable.
