In 2001 Alexander Dockery received an unimaginably cruel and long sentence of 25 years to life for burglary of unoccupied apartments in which nobody was harmed. Now, he has received clemency from the Governor and is finally coming home after 23 years.
While in prison, Alex received three degrees, including his Masters. He plans to continue on to get his PhD. He mentored younger prisoners to use their time to change their lives and better themselves, and he led organizations that organized and donated to women's shelters and children of incarcerated parents. Alex is an amazing father, grandfather, friend, mentor, thinker, and writer.
We are organizing this GoFundMe to help Alex have a smooth transition while he navigates reentry and reestablishes his roots. The money will go towards everything he needs: cell phone, clothes, shoes, food, savings...and so much more. Alex says, "There were days I thought I would never get out. I am forever indebted to those who gave me this second chance, and I can't wait to put myself in a position where I can be helping others and giving back." Now let's help get him all the resources he needs to make his dream a reality!
