Welcome Church Goes Around The World

At Welcome Church, we love people and want to respond to Jesus’ call to support and help others. 

During this time of Coronavirus Lockdown, incidences of Domestic Violence have risen, and at the same time charitable giving has fallen , so we want to do something that could really make a difference.

We are raising money for Your Sanctuary, a Woking based charity who help victims of domestic violence and their families. It’s a real privilege to get alongside them and raise money for the amazing work they do, and we would like to invite you to take part in two different ways.

Our Ambitious Plan
We have come up with a plan to use our daily exercise to go around the world in 6 weeks - a distance of 24, 901 miles - and to raise £24,901, which is £1 per mile.

Whether we achieve the financial target or not, any amount raised will be amazing. It all goes to Your Sanctuary, and we're going to have fun doing it

This is how it will work: 

Firstly: we are inviting people to record their exercise distance each day - walking,  running, cycling, roller skating, scooting or an exercise machine - however you like to get about under your own power send us that information so that it gets logged and added together with everyone else. Over 6 weeks, we’re aiming to cover a distance together that would have taken us right around the world! 
 
Everyone’s exercise counts, from the youngest to the oldest, from the longest to the shortest distance. This is a team effort where Welcome Church, together with other supporters from our community who want to get involved, can come together to complete this great challenge.

You can send us your distance information by emailing us on [email redacted] - feel free to do it daily or weekly. There are lots of smartphone exercise apps available to help you measure how far you go, or you can just give it your very best (and honest) estimate.

Secondly: we’d love you to support us with fund-raising by giving yourself,  and inviting other people to give or to get involved. People can give anything from £1 upwards – and it all goes to Your Sanctuary. Any amount, however small or large, would be appreciated.

This is such an important cause, and funding is needed
Even in recent weeks, while Lockdown has been on, precious families with small children have been taken in by Your Sanctuary to enable them to escape from situations of domestic violence at home. Many others have been given advice or support.  So let's step up together and make a difference.
