I am running Sheffield Half Marathon for my niece, Mia.
Mia had acute profound Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) during birth. This brain injury lead to a diagnosis of dyskinetic cerebral palsy, a disorder affecting the motor function throughout her body; including her physical mobility, mouth function for eating and speaking, and ability to learn independently. If this was not enough for someone so little, Mia was also diagnosed with metastatic neuroblastoma at the age of 7 weeks.
Given how much Mia has been through over the last 20 month, I think this is a great cause to run for.
Money raised will be split. Half will go towards additional speech and language therapy sessions for Mia. Half will go to the charity PEEPS HIE (charity number: 1179495) who support parents, families and friends of those affected from HIE.
