OPERATION AMELIORATE: MARATHON JOURNEY

Hello! My name is Jillian Finch-many may know my story as to how becoming a nurse in healthcare lead me to an 82lb weight loss, and allowed me to discover my love and passion for running. Throughout this year I have completed 4 half marathons and am registered to run the Detroit Free Press Full, 26.2 Mile, Marathon on October 19th. Running has become more than a physical passion, but an opportunity to reflect on the purpose. Training through long miles can be tough; it is exhausting not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. It requires strength, courage and support of loved ones to overcome this struggle. With the opportunity to reflect during these long training runs, I cannot think of anyone who embodies these characteristics of strength, courage and support more than a local Belleville family, the Strzalkowski’s.

Amelie Strzalkowski is a brave 3-year-old little girl fighting a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Amie was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the muscles, which has actually traveled to her brain. Currently, there are only 12 documented cases of Amie’s type of cancer that have traveled to the brain. Much of Amie’s three years of life have included undergoing multiple surgeries to remove golf-ball-sized tumors, as well as numerous chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Mott Children’s Hospital.

As a nurse, my field allows an inside understanding of the strain physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially that illness can imply to a family. Throughout this journey the Strzalkowski family has been nothing but courageous and resilient to the trials and tribulations that Amie’s cancer has presented.

I am asking for your donation in support of my running efforts to aid Amelie Strzalkowski and her family, with their “marathon” journey with cancer.

Please help me with Operation Ameliorate to reach, and crush, my goal of $2,602.00 by the time I cross that finish line and complete 26.2 miles in honor of such a strong little girl.

For more information on the Strzalkowski family you can follow her blog at http://amelie-strzalkowski.blogspot.com

Thank you for your support and I can’t wait to see you at the finish line!
