Thank you so much for your offers of support during TSNY's temporary closure. I know it means a lot to me, as well as to the rest of the TSNY-DC team. We are truly a circus family <3
As you know, several members of TSNY staff rely on hourly incomes. With the closure of TSNY and other local gyms, dance studios, etc., some of these individuals could use financial help from the community.
For this reason, I have volunteered to set up a GoFundMe.
No pressure at all to donate. However, if you do have the means, a donation of $10-$80 would be much appreciated.
I am keeping a finger on the pulse of people's needs. For now, I've set a preliminary goal based on expected needs during this two-week closure. However, it's probable that needs will increase if the period of closure lasts significantly longer. If this happens, I will re-assess and reach out again.
While TSNY is aware that I am voluntarily coordinating this GoFundMe, TSNY is not affiliated in any way and no funds collected will go to or pass through TSNY.
The money will be used for helping TSNY staff with rent, bills, and groceries. For privacy, I will not reveal the names of specific individuals who receive funds. However, beyond that, I am aiming for as much transparency as possible, and am happy to answer any questions you might have. None of the money will go to me personally.
When TSNY re-opens, any unused funds will be donated to a local DC charity to combat homelessness.
One final note - My decision to create this fundraiser does not indicate that TSNY-DC is somehow not doing its own part in supporting staff. While I can't speak first-hand about the experiences of full-time employees, I do want to say that TSNY management is doing its due diligence and has been nothing but attentive, responsive, and supportive to staff affected by the closure. As far as I can tell, TSNY's resources are almost entirely dedicated to taking care of staff at this time. My goal is only to supplement that support.
Sending lots of circus love to all of you!
Best,
Jana
P.S. If you are stuck at home, and you make any crafts... Send pictures! Circus-related crafts? EVEN BETTER.
If your house is overflowing with them, we can use them to decorate in the tent!
