UPDATE: A *lot* has happened in the eight-ish months since we first posted this. We adjusted our routines to address a tardiness issue that seemed to be the main argument against Bre’s fitness as a parent. Bre weathered unfounded accusations of drug use at work, the loss of a significant part of the community we thought we had built here, multiple delays and even more outlandish claims and demands, bizarre and invasive discovery requests … in short, we have dotted every i, crossed every t, jumped through every hoop, met every expectation.
The stress of this was a major reason why Bre lost her job. And she is now going into a student teaching year in which she is getting paid, but only barely. Suffice it to say, finances are tight — even tighter than they were eight months ago.
Through it all, Bre’s legal team has been hard at work, which means they’ve been racking up billable hours. On the eve of finally getting the second round of mediation which should produce an agreement that at least ends the tension of the last eight-plus months, Bre’s lawyer informed her that her bosses had made it clear that she needed to withdraw from the case because of unpaid invoices.
So, we have a simple but daunting task: find another $13,000 ($8k past due, $5k for a new retainer) by early next week, or Bre will need to represent herself. Anything you can give, even if it’s just sharing this with your networks, will be immensely appreciated.

This fall has been a whirlwind for our family, bringing significant challenges and unexpected changes. Between adjusting to a new school schedule for Asher, navigating Bre’s increased responsibilities at work, and ensuring that Gemma and Lyana get the services they need, life has been busier than ever.
In October, we were hit with another hurdle when our roommate informed us they’d be moving out, leaving us to cover the rent and bills on our own. Then, in early November, Bre received a notice that her ex-husband was petitioning to drastically modify their custody agreement. He is seeking to change custody terms, reduce visitation to an 80/20 split, and eliminate child support—an already minimal amount granted under the existing order.
To defend against this, we’re facing an $8,000 legal retainer while juggling our regular expenses and responsibilities. This legal battle has put a tremendous strain on our family, both emotionally and financially.
Despite these challenges, we’re committed to building a safe and loving home for our blended family. Our three neurodivergent kids thrive in this environment, and we’re determined to ensure that continues.
We’re asking for your help. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward covering the legal costs to protect our family’s stability.
We’re also actively seeking job opportunities to improve our long-term situation. If you know of any leads or connections that could help, please reach out. In the meantime, we’re doing everything possible, including side gigs like DoorDash and Uber, to keep things afloat.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering supporting us during this difficult time. Together, we can ensure that our family remains strong and united.
