As a local resident and business owner in Palm Springs, I wanted to reach out and directly help our homeless residents that I see daily. A few months ago I began taking a portion of my sales at my Art Galleries and purchasing items and creating "Care Bags". On my drive home at night if I encountered a homeless person on the street, I would stop and give them a bag. Everyone that I gave one to was most appreciative for the contents! I reached out to the community as well and have received donations and assistance in getting these bags into the hands of the people who need them most. In the summer our town is very hot and these individuals have no where to go to get out of the harsh sun. The Care Bags bring them immediate relief wherever we may find them throughout our city.
Each bag contains:
Frozen new washcloth
Fresh new socks
Tooth brush/tooth paste
SPF Sun Block
Reflectors for bicycles
New t shirt
We also have a number of homeless residents that have pets and we always include a special bag them them as well including:
Dog or Cat food
For our Female homeless we provide in the bags clothing for women as well as feminine hygiene items that are most needed.
We have given out over 500 Care Bags in a very short amount of time. We have been able to get a few people off of the streets and back to their loved ones.
I am creating this acount as I have many people that aren't able to drop donations off at my gallery or are out of the Palm Springs area that want to help. This is a productive way to do so!
Each Care Bag costs about $10.00 each to put together so any donations are a big help and go a long way.
