I am answering the #buzzthefuzz challenge call out by Sheriff Brian Martin. With traditional graduation ceremonies cancelled due to COVID-19, several community members and school officials have come together to form Project Light Pole as a way to recognize our graduating Class of 2020 seniors in the Konocti Unified School District. Large banner photos of the graduates will be placed two to a light pole on Olympic Dr, Lakeshore Dr and Hwy 53 in Clearlake and Main Street in Lower Lake. Graduates from LLHS, KEC, Carle and Lewis School. A total of 104 banners will be displayed and they will be gifted to the graduates after display.
While they have been successful in fundraising, they are short $1,285. I am asking you to join me in helping them fully fund the project. Based on the “rules” set forth by Sheriff Martin, if we raise the money, Fire Chief Sapeta from Lake County Fire will take a ride in a fire engine to the police station and provide me with a number 0 buzz cut in front of the station. If we surpass our goal, I will be expecting him to support our local donut shop and bring a box of power rings. And don’t worry, we will make sure proper PPE is worn.
Project Light Pole is being organized by Superintendent Salato, LLHS Principal Cecil Edwards, Small Town Ceramics Owner Rachelle Sapeta and the Sober Grad group.
Let’s bring this project to the finish line and support the Class of 2020!
Excess funds will be donated to the Clearlake Highlands Senior Service Center and Meals on Wheels. They continue to serve and feed some of our most vulnerable community members despite diminishing funding.
