On Saturday, December 20, Oaklanders will protest and demand that Home Depot immediately:
- Respect day laborers
- Publicly condemn ICE raids
- Stop cooperating with ICE – close stores and parking lots to ICE agents
- Negotiate with NDLON to protect workers and customers from attacks.
- Help detained victims and support their families.
- Release security video and other footage of enforcement actions at Home Depot stores
To support day laborers, organizers are raising $3,000 to pay out day laborers for their time during the duration of the protest.
Why Protest Home Depot?
ICE raids are happening on Home Depot’s watch — on its properties, with its silence. The company has not taken public steps to resist or condemn these raids, nor has it demanded that the government stop carrying out enforcement operations at its stores.
In Oakland, day laborers seeking work have been threatened with ICE and disrespected on a regular basis by store representatives. Workers have been banned from the parking lots and have no safe place to seek work.
